The rally heard of the impacts on workers of losing entitlements by being forced on to Australian Workplace agreements, before moving to Melbourne’s Federation Square. During November, forty eight workers in the La Trobe valley have been locked out for six weeks because they refuse to accept an agreement that cuts their pay and conditions; Ford has axed 640 jobs; the Howard Government has stripped occupational health and safety rights from workers; there has been solidarity with Feltex workers resisting AWAs; community resistance took place at Port Campbell Woodside Gas Plant construction site; and victories were had by the workers of Thompson's Roller Shutters and Heinemann Electric.

The Gippsland TLC conducted an All Unions’ Shop Stewards and Delegates Meeting on Friday 29 September 2006, with the meeting voting to support the next National Day of Protest against the Howard Government's Industrial Relations Laws to be held on November 30th.
