Gardasil Gripe
by Helen Lobato via sam Tuesday May 22, 2007 at 05:13 PM

Yes you've seen it before the Gripe over Gardasil Urgent Repost for the following reasons:

Authorities to investigate Gardasil reactions

Victorian health authorities will investigate possible reactions to the cervical cancer vaccine, Gardasil.

Sacred Heart Girls College in Oakleigh, in south-east Melbourne, says 26 girls fell sick and some were taken to hospital after being vaccinated earlier this month.

Dr Rachel David, from the vaccine's manufacturer CSL, says feeling faint is not uncommon but the benefits far outweigh the side effects.

"The benefits of vaccination in terms of preventing cervical cancer, other genital cancers and genital warts, far outweigh any of the short-term discomforts that we may experience," she said.

"That's the same for many other vaccinations which may have been used that may have similar effects."

But federal Health Minister Tony Abbott has urged people to remain calm amid the claims of negative reactions to the vaccine.

Mr Abbott has told Southern Cross radio, Gardasil has been extensively tested and is safe.

He says the cases at Sacred Heart College will be fully investigated.

"Certainly I'll get the experts looking at it as urgently as possible," he said.

"We don't take these claims lightly by any means. But I would counsel people against at this stage, not getting their kids vaccinated."

==============================

Yesterday the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee rejected a proposal to subsidise Gardasil, the cervical cancer vaccine, due to its high cost.

We've seen it all before!

Whenever it appears that a new drug or vaccine has been denied a government subsidy then the lobbying starts in earnest. Yesterday the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee rejected a proposal to subsidise Gardasil, the cervical cancer vaccine, due to its high cost.

However Gardasil needs to be rejected outright!

With cervical cancer causing about one percent of all cancer deaths due to routine pap screening what is the rush to vaccinate our young girls with a vaccine that has not been proven safe and effective.

During the vaccine trials there were adverse effects in 90% of the test
subjects. These included headache, gastroenteritis, appendicitis, pelvic inflammatory disease, asthma, bronchospasm and arthritis.

The organism that is believed to be responsible for cervical cancer is the Human Papilloma Virus. However there is no proof of this causation. In fact over half the adult population is infected with HPV yet only 1 percent of women develop the cancer.

]Drug company CSL which shares Australian marketing rights for the Gardasil vaccine with Merck warned that even a small delay in the availability of subsidies could expose thousands of women to HPV by putting back the start of school immunisation programs.

There is more than a hint of desperation in this plea by big pharma. Back in September CSL sent letters to GP's encouraging patients to spend $450 to buy the cervical cancer vaccine rather than waiting for the Federal Government to make it much cheaper.

Financial analysts predict Gardasil could be Merck's most important pipeline contributor to top-line growth, with peak sales of at least $2 billion. This is revenue that Merck badly needs after the Vioxx scandals. That revenue figure assumes that Gardasil will be required for school admittance.

Beware the lobbying has only just begun!

Don't panic about Avandia, diabetes expert says
by Parrot Press Tuesday May 22, 2007 at 06:23 PM

Diabetes Australia is urging people taking the drug Avandia not to panic about new research that links the medication with an increased risk of heart attack.

A study published in the New England Medical Journal suggests people with type 2 diabetes taking the drug are 43 per cent more likely to have a heart attack.

Diabetes Australia president Gary Deed says the results are inconclusive and the results of a better study are due out in 18 months.

He says in the meantime, people should keep taking their medication.

"People on Avandia don't panic, go and see your GP and specialist and have an individual assessment at this point in time," he said.

"In fact, the medication's benefits may outweigh things - until further evidence emerges I think that's our advice at the present time."

THIS IS NOT A LOVE SONG

Western medicine may be good for trauma victims but it has a long way to go for things like cancer prevention. Why not read the post to you as a gift and lock the fucking knee!

The PR campaign for the government subsidized vaccine extended to national women's magazines. Do ask me how I know that. But the message was clear: "your government really cares about you", ie: big brother loves you.

2 of the leading causes of cancer are obesity and diesel fumes. So don't sit at the back of the bus if you're on the fat side. And remember, the government that lives you also subsidizes the diesel industry and refuses to ban TRANSFATS or stop advertising junk food to childrens in C time.
