Have you heard about the recent craze of 'Flash Mobs'.... well, they are spreading quickly around the globe... and Melbourne is next!

What's a flash mob? Well! First, check out this story for a general introduction, and also The Age article from August 5th on the phenomenon of Flash Mobs. Then, if you want more proof that these intriguing events are happening, check out CheeseBikini for some great pictures and summaries taken from around the globe.

Basically, a flash mob is the sudden appearance of a LARGE group of people (50-300+) who do some sort of (usually strange!) task, then dissipate as quickly as they arrived. The purpose? Nothing but fun! (although I'm sure we could squeeze some sort of subversive comment about how the order and predictability of our daily lives stifles our creativity and freedom!). It's solely an activity to get people together, and to provide a bit of spice to the lives of people watching - imagine what they'll go home and tell their families!

We want to organise a mob in Melbourne in the next few months. We'll start planning when we reach 100 interested members (to try and ensure we have enough people!)
